Fuck this bugs me.
All across Canada public health inspectors threaten to close down shops everyday because their customers wish to sit outside consuming the products they’ve purchased with their dog sitting beside them.
If a cafe or bar doesn’t force the client to remove the dog from the patio they run the risk of their license for a patio being revoked?
WTF?
Why? Why do we allow these puritanical fuckheads to make sweeping dictates like this? Its not like the dog is dirtier than the cement that the customers chair is sitting on.
In many places in Europe you can actually take your dog inside the cafe.
Our Canadian society is so programmed to listen to these peurile victorian dictates and not complain. Why? Why do we let our local councils pit cafe owners against their clients? I’m out walking my dog. I want to stop for a coffee. My beautiful friendly dog is not allowed on the filthy cement of the patio because of “health regulations”? What?
Its fucking bullshit.
What makes it even more sickening and fucked up is that a cafe owner who is perfectly willing to pay a bit extra for a special permit to allow dogs on their patio can’t do it, because there is no such thing.
Sure I can understand that some people are afraid of dogs. But cafe owners should be able to choose if they wish to have a patio where walk by traffic that consists of people who are walking their dogs can sit and consume (the dogs don’t seem to be a health hazard walking on the street).
These bullshit puritanical rules everywhere are sick. They don’t take into account the realities of modern life.
We live in fucking crappy boxes without enough greenspace, we need pets to keep our sanity in this screwy world. Why the fuck can’t we sit and have a coffee with our friend beside us.
People with aids, herpes, gonnorhea, the flu, excema, or just plain bad personal hygiene can walk right into the cafe and sit down. I’m certainly not saying they shouldn’t, I’m just saying that the “public health” excuse is just a lazy inspector’s way of avoiding the fact that they are enforcing anachronistic puritanical laws that are negatively impacting the lives of good honest people who just want to stop and PURCHASE a local product and enjoy it with their friend.
Its just plain crap.
And while I’m at it, why can’t I take a well behaved and non dangerous dog on the bus? I could when I was in Calgary. I paid my fare and a separate one for my dog. They don’t have any big problems with it and they get another fare.
Poor people have dogs too. They need to take their friend to the vet, or the pet store, or to the big dogpark across town.
We need to say something when we encounter outdated laws such as these that restrict access or make people feel that they are somehow “bad” for things that are normal in our life.
