Hollywood sucks for the most part.
They lament the decline in moviegoers and spend oodles tracking down people who download their content instead of fixing the core problems.
Shitty movies. Remakes of Remakes. General this and sir that and lets blow something up.
Stick it to the Man and get the car chase started. So much fucking crap.
Huge mounds of crap. With a few tiny perls occassionaly scattered throughout.
Almost every mainstream movie has Authority, God, Death represented. Drivel.
Unbelievably expensive prices. Kids expect popcorn and a family movie night passes the $50 mark before you even get to the $3 each of soda and the $20 of popcorn that would cost less than a buck if you were at home. Two adults can easily spend $40 to see a new movie.
High prices for DVD’s. $30 – $50 for something that cost less than a buck to produce?
Then they try to squeeze every last drop out of the dvd sales before releasing the film to TV so 3 years later you get to see a movie on the cable you pay $50 for.
I think something cool is about to happen. I honestly think we will see a strong emergence of Machinima this year. Using “The Movies” or the “Half Life 2″ editing suite any person with a half decent computer can tell their story.
Circumventing all boundaries to scriptwriting or moviemaking. It may take a couple more years to really catch on but developers are starting to refine their editing and cutscene creation tools to facilitate easier machinima with game tools.
The next cool movie may not be real actors at all. Not even a special effects team. Just one person sitting at a chair anywhere in the world saying their piece.
