I spoke about this a bit before
but right now at tax time
I’m seeing it so much it’s making me puke.
The reason for tax returns is that the poor need to get back a bit each year
But all over our system in the last 10 years
the Clawbacks are devouring these needed boosts
The system has been amended over the last 10 years
so that the most vulnerable of Canadians
Those who really need a little boost
are just driven into the ground even more
So someone on welfare or EI gets a return
they’ve been living on nothing
scraping by
they get this bit of cash
and they have things they need
like some clothes, paying some bills
a much needed little trip to see a film
some dentistry
whatever
Welfare in BC, and soon EI as well
deducts their tax return, dollar for dollar
So people with already terrible money skills
who haven’t had any money for a while
are expected to keep, in their hand
their rent and food for 2 months.
So what ends up happening?
right after tax time
a month or two later
we have a surge of people
who can’t pay their rent and spent their food money
I’m having a hard time, and I don’t have half the bad money skills
of other people I see here.
Hungry, depressed, beaten down, poverty stricken people
are “expected” to hold on to that other $600 in their pocket
for a month or more
insanity
it truly is insanity
the “claims assistant agent”
stoic and stonefaced
doesn’t care
“you should have saved your money”
she admonishes
chuckling inside
at the misery of people
foolish enough to be poor amidst plenty
It makes no sense
EI is supposed to keep people from losing all their savings when they lose their job
But now you have to use all your savings to get EI thanks to Harper
just like welfare’s been doing for years
while the EI surplus builds up
and every 10 years they have a “crisis”
so they can scoop it up
to dish out to fat cat friends
while those who paid in
who need services to help them through
Get turned away
watching hungrily
as pigs in the trough feed
If someone on welfare works for a day
They get the Clawback
they can’t keep a cent
all of it gets deducted
from their next check
So again, they use energy to work
to try to get something
and it ends up costing them grief
for nothing
The government of Canada
has gradually and consistently
been driving everyone who is below the poverty line
further and further
with clawbacks, lack of services, fraudulent support contractors, rules and blocks
turning them away
disqualifying them
barriers, over and over and over
barriers and hoops to jump through
more ways than ever
to disqualify
Welfare is the BOTTOM
there should be no way
that someone can be disqualified
from the bare minimum
Let’s repeat that:
there should be no way that someone can be disqualified from the bare minimum
Just like there should be NO WAY that people can have nowhere to sleep safely
out of the rain
If they get a tax return
that should be solid
protected
let them have their little bonus
they’re at the fucking bottom
and next month
don’t try to starve them
because they got their little bonus
let them work a day, or two
and let them keep 50%
like you used to
and then they will
I’ve talked of this before

So everyone who’s been in Van more than a month knows
that that’s where they are in greatest concentration
that’s their “spot”

this is something I’ve written about before,
but these guys actually get some good stats
6000+ people died while on welfare in a 3 year period
They don’t keep stats on how they die
which they should, so we can see exposure and malnutrition
but something that’s been really itching me lately is
the fact there are no headstones
they burn them in a cremation oven
if we saw 6000 headstones we might think deeper about them
but their bodies are whisked away in the night and morning
they have few contacts
they are not truly counted
turned to ashes
did they really exist?
One less human who dared to be less than perfect or serve happily…
The great depression has returned
manufactured or not, it’s here
millions out of work, hundreds of thousands and more don’t qualify for any form of money to live on
there was a $50B surplus last year in E.I.
An unreal tax that every WORKING Canadian paid into,
the rich didn’t pay that tax, they’re self employed
we need people retrained, we need wage subsidies, we need social services duration extensions, we need to make sure everyone has a roof over their head and some basic food on the table, heat for the home and a phone to find work
EVERYBODY, every last fucking one of them
Billions going out to pay for sports centres all across the land
we don’t need sports centres, we need COMMUNITY centres, places to gather!
we need food and housing, and student loans to retrain ourselves
We pay 12 billion in foreign aid
and our own people are losing their homes and dying like fucking maggots on a desicated corpse
the corpse of laisse faire, imaginary money can starve you to death
prisoners have covering and food, can get degrees
the honest poor stand in the rain for hours
to get the smallest bowl of shit chili
$50B would get everyone working with wage subsidies, or grants for upgrading their schooling
expanded student loans, expanded food banks and clothing services
expanded social services to keep people in houses, not shelters
A $50B tax on the working wage slaves, silently absconded with
peanuts thrown out to the starving masses
to give the appearance of a “caring gov’t”
We’re setting the stage for a new dictator
we’re rebuilding the mass hatred that poverty makes
they’ll be feeding us scapegoats by the truckload
to be beaten down and jailed
for daring to scream for something to eat and a place to sleep
while the land the poor once owned is scooped up for a bargain
$50B would feed and house every Canadian who falls through the cracks for the next 20-30 years
Where did it go?
Let’s put Harper’s recent order for $500 million worth of military drones in perspective:
In this Great Depression:
That would cover every unemployed Canadian who for whatever reason doesn’t qualify for welfare/ei/disability/pension, all those people falling through the cracks would have the basic welfare rate for 5 years.
That would buy 167 or more MRI units, the most needed piece of medical equipment in Canada
That would pay for thousands more nurses and doctors to get grants for going to school with the guarantee that they would work in the Canadian healthcare system for the next 10 years.
It’s a mind boggling amount of money that’s going to line a corporate supporter’s pockets, when Canadians have more pressing needs than robot surveillance.

so an officer might get a credit for an arrest
while the good citizen loses everything
after the policeman has left
